Mayor of Neath Port Talbot

NEATH Port Talbot's new mayor will focus on bringing communities together, and ensuring they help each other.

Councillor Arthur Davies, ward member for Coedffranc Central, will also support the food banks across Neath Port Talbot as his charities of the year.

Thanking his fellow councillors for the opportunity, Mr Davies said he hoped to meet as many citizens of Neath Port Talbot as possible and to visit communities and organisations county wide.

He announced that his theme for the year would be One Community Together, adding: "Community working is a key priority for the Mayor and Mayoress.
"Neath Port Talbot has gone through tough times in recent years and community spirit has been key to ensuring the morale of our towns and villages has stayed strong, and that we continue to prosper as an area.

"With everyone pulling together a community can achieve a lot more than when individuals try to achieve things on their own."

Mayoress will be his daughter, Linda Goode, who is a staff nurse at Morriston Hospital, but he will also be supported by his four sons.

Mr Davies has served as community councillor for 36 years in Coedffranc and has been a county councillor since 2004.

Deputy mayor for the year will be councillor Sheila Penry, and her consort will be Glen Clarke.
