Councillor Capleton was born in Crosby, Merseyside where he spent his first
five years. His parents then emigrated to South Africa and he grew up and went to school in Cape Town. He trained in accountancy but, after a few years, became interested in computing, which was then in its infancy.
After further training he joined Total Oil, South Africa as a computer programmer. In his mid-Mayor & Mayoress Capletontwenties he left South Africa, returned to the UK and lived in London for a few years, where he worked for Total Oil UK. Married in 1972 and moved to Charnwood and lived in Woodhouse, Rothley and now Mountsorrel.
Cllr. Capleton continued to work in IT at the Leicestershire Health Authority and then Leicester City Council until retiring in 2007. He’s been involved in various aspects of voluntary work and has served as a school governor and a Samaritan volunteer.
Councillor Capleton says he has always been interested in politics and considers it a privilege to have served as a Charnwood Councillor for Mountsorrel for the past eight years. His passion is for foreign travel and has visited over fifty countries, really loving India and South East Asia. He has one daughter, three sons and one grandson.
