Former Mayor, Cllr Allison Harrison handed over the Chain of Office to Aylesbury’s new Mayor, Cllr Barbara Russel on Friday 20th May at Aylesbury Town Council’s Annual Mayor Making Ceremony held at Aylesbury College. Cllr Tom Hunter-Watts was made the new Deputy at the official ceremony.
At the event, Cllr Harrison presented a cheque for £6,449.58 to the chosen Mayor’s charity for 2016/17, Community Unity Projects. In addition, another £1,015 was raised on the evening through the selling of Raffle tickets for an opportunity to win a Diamond, donated to the Charity by local family jewellers, Aylesbury Bullion Company. The outgoing Mayor Cllr Harrison, gave a speech thanking all the Residents, Organisations and local businesses for inviting her to attend various events over the year, she was delighted to meet so many people and has learned so much about the communities within Aylesbury.
Cllr Barbara Russel is honoured to take on the role as Mayor of Aylesbury and expressed her delight and privilege at being nominated to represent the town. The Mayor outlined her plans for the year which included more interaction with local schools and supporting local charities and business. She looks forward to her year ahead
