Mayor of Salisbury

Salisbury City Council is delighted to announce the election of Councillor Mr Derek Brown OBE as the 756th Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Salisbury following the Annual Meeting of the Council which took place at St. Thomas’s Church on Saturday 14 May 2016.

The event was attended by over 200 Civic Dignitaries including Mayors from neighbouring towns and cities and the Mayors of Saintes and Xanten who witnessed the handover of the Mayoral Chain from Cllr Mr Andrew Roberts to Cllr Mr Derek Brown OBE.

Cllr Brown grew up in Salisbury and his children were educated here. He has been a City Councillor since the Council’s formation in 2009. A former Army Officer, he left the Service in 1997 and became the Managing Director of a heavy haulage transport firm locally. Awarded an OBE in 2009 he has recently been appointed as The Rifles County Colonel for Wiltshire; is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Carmen and a Freeman of the City of London.

He will be joined during his Mayoral year by his wife Cllr Mrs Penny Brown who is also a Councillor for Salisbury City Council and past Mayor of the City.

Cllr Brown said, “It is an honour to serve the City as the Mayor and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that will be presented. As the 756th Mayor I am proud to be a small link in a chain of Mayors that dates back nearly 800 years to a time when our Cathedral was being built.”
