Mayor of Lisburn

Councillor Thomas Beckett (DUP) was elected the first Mayor of Lisburn City & Castlereagh City Council at its Annual Meeting in March 2015. He represents Killultagh.

The Deputy Mayor is Councillor Alexander Redpath (UUP).

Councillor Beckett took up his poistion as Mayor, on 1st April 2015, when the Council officially assumed responsibility for the new Council area.

Speaking about his nomination, Councillor Beckett said he was delighted to receive the honour of becoming the first Mayor of the new Council.

“I am deeply honoured to have received the nomination and I’d like to thank the Council for their support and faith in me.

“The last year has been very special for me. To have been the first Councillor elected to any of the new Shadow Councils during last May’s local government elections and now to have the honour of being the first Mayor of the new Council is very humbling.  These are responsibilities that I take very seriously and, on behalf of all our citizens in the new Council area, I will carry these out to the very best of my ability and with the highest respect for the Office," said Councillor Beckett.

As Mayor, Councillor Beckett may sit on all Council Committees and also chairs Monthly Meetings of the Council which normally take place on the last Tuesday of each month.
