Mayor of Cherwell

Councillor Melanie Magee is the new Cherwell District Council Chairman. The full council made the appointment at its meeting on 19 May, as well as making appointments to the council's executive.
Originally from Paddington, Cllr Magee has lived in Oxfordshire since 2000. She is a chartered, full time HR professional. She is Cherwell's councillor champion for apprenticeships and employment initiatives. 

Cllr Magee said: "Through my role as councillor, and in my day job, I want to engage both residents and the business community to ensure apprenticeship opportunities continue to expand throughout our district. During my year as Chairman I will focus on helping job seekers and in particular young unemployed people."

Becoming a Cherwell District Councillor in 2011, 
she was Deputy Mayor of Bicester in 2012, and Mayor in 2013. Cllr Magee took up the Vice Chairman position at Cherwell District Council in 2014 and stood as a Parliamentary candidate in the recent General Election. 

Cllr Magee lives in Bicester with husband David and daughter Dannie, both of whom are Bicester town councillors. 

The Chairman's chosen charity for this year will be SeeSaw which provides grief support for children and young people in Oxfordshire, www.seesaw.org.uk
