The current Chairman of the Council for 2016-17 is Councillor Frankie Ricci and his Vice-Chairman is Councillor Stephen Kirby.
The Chairman of Braintree District Council is the First Citizen in the District of Braintree and takes precedence over all others including Town Mayors and Parish Chairmen, but excluding royalty and Her Majesty's representative, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex.
The Chairman is elected annually by fellow Councillors and presides over meetings of the Council to ensure that business is carried out efficiently and effectively.
The Chairman acts in an ambassadorial role to promote Braintree District Council and will undertake his/her role in accordance with the aims and values of the Council in a manner that is not influenced by his or her political views.
