Geoff was born on a smallholding at Moss Gate, between Fulford and Hilderstone, the eldest of four children. He went to school in Fulford and then moved on to Granville in Stone. Geoff always wanted to be a farmer but the home smallholding was not large enough and his Dad said 'if you can't farm for yourself, then you don't farm at all'. So Geoff followed his next passion, which was cars, and started an apprenticeship at Barker and Shenton's in Stone. After qualifying and getting some years experience, he had itchy feet, and made the decision to 'go it alone' and spent the next forty years running his own business in Stone, Stonefield Garage.
Geoff dedicated his time to his business and his sport of Clay Target shooting. He was a very competitive Clay Target Shooter and over a thirty year period he was Staffordshire Team Captain, represented England on two occasions and travelled far and wide to competitions, including America to compete in the largest Clay shoot in the world.
This situation changed somewhat when in 1985 he met Cathy who was a widow with two small boys and fell in love with her. In 1989 they married and he adopted the boys. Their eldest son, Nathan, is married to Kimberley and their younger son Ashley has a long term partner, Trudi, both lovely girls.
Geoff has now retired but still keeps his hand in having four classic cars to maintain and several lawn tractors, which he needs to maintain their large garden in Whitgreave.
Geoff has been a Stafford Borough Councillor for 13 years and a Stone Town Councillor for 14 years and was elected Stone Town Mayor for 2004-2005. He has served on the Planning, Planning and Regeneration, Community Services and Resources, Public appeals and Licensing committees. Geoff is also a long term active member of Stone in Bloom.
Geoff will be raising funds during his Mayoral Year in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind Stone and Stafford District and Local Community Hubs in Stafford Borough.
