Councillor Patricia Hughes - Mayor
Patricia was born in Rayleigh Essex, the youngest of 3 children, where her father was a Funeral Director. She was educated at The FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh and later at Chelmsford College of Further Education. With the exception of a short time in America and Paris, she has lived in Essex, moving to South Woodham Ferrers in 1995.
Patricia is married to Paul and has one daughter, who is a nurse, two step children and
two wonderful grandchildren Joshua and Polly by her daughter Valerie and Son-in-law Andrew.
Patricia worked in Social Services for nearly 20 years, in Chelmsford and Dagenham. She worked in Mental Health, with young people in care and the elderly, before deciding to qualify and work with young adults who had Profound Learning disabilities. She later became a Manager of a Residential Home, helping disabled young people to live independently in the community.
Patricia has been an elected Chelmsford City Councillor for thirteen years representing Elmwood and Woodville Wards in South Woodham Ferrers. In this time she has been the council’s representative on the Board of CHP (Chelmer Housing Partnership) and a Trustee on the CAB (Citizen’s Advice Bureau) and in 2005/2006 was Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford.
She is currently a member of Chelmsford Planning Committee and The Licencing and Regularity Committee.
Outside of Chelmsford City Council, Patricia has also been an elected member of South Woodham Ferrers Town Council 2011/2013 and is currently Chairman of The Patient Participation Group at Greenwood Surgery in South Woodham Ferrers, where she has worked as a Receptionist for the last 12 years.
On her election as Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Hughes said; “It is a huge honour and privilege to be the Mayor of Chelmsford, and to be able thank and recognise the people of Chelmsford who enable it to be such a fantastic place to live and work.
My husband Paul, who is disabled and a wheelchair user, will be my Consort for the year. For some of the Mayoral Events he will be accompanied by his Personal Aid, Mr Graham Moulds.”
