Cllr Barby Dashwood-Morris, who represents the Chiddingly, East Hoathly and Laughton ward, is the new Chairman of Wealden District Council.

She takes over from Cllr Dr Brian Redman who has held the post for the past two years.

“I would like to use my time as Chairman to raise the profile of the Council,” said Cllr Dashwood-Morris. “I am immensely proud of what we do here. There are many successes which we are involved in, both as a Council and as individual councillors.  I will be looking for many more opportunities to promote Wealden in the future.”

Safety in Action, the Council’s hands-on hazard training for primary school children, local farmers’ markets and the economic regeneration of the District are all themes which the Chairman will be looking to highlight in the year ahead.

The Chairman’s charities this year will be the Friends of Crowborough War Memorial Hospital and Friends of Uckfield Community Hospital.

Cllr Chris Hardy, who represents Hartfield, was appointed Vice Chairman at last week’s meeting of Full Council.

Outgoing Chairman, Cllr Dr Brian Redman, and his wife, Deveda, were thanked by the new Chairman on behalf of the Council.  During his time in office, Cllr Dr Redman raised £544 for his Chairman’s Charity, Abbeyfield South Downs, which provides care for the elderly.

Previous Chairmen of Wealden District Council and the Mayors of Wealden towns attended the annual meeting
