Mayor of Vale of Glamorgan

Fred came to Barry South Wales in 1987 to work as a Traffic Manager for British Rail in the train load coal division after previously working as the Station Manager at Crew Railway Station.    

In 1991 Fred went to work for Freightliner Limited at their Board Headquarters in Euston, London.   He left Freightliner in 2001 and became the Regional Fundraising Manager for Wales, West Midland and Northern Ireland for the National Medical Charity Arthritis Research UK.  In July 2012, Fred retired from Arthritis Research UK after setting up West Quay Property Management Limited in Barry, where he now has over 300 properties under his management.  Fred also works part-time managing the affairs of the Sully Sports and Social Club.

Fred’s political career began in May 1992 when he was elected as a member for the South Glamorgan County Council.  In 1995 he became a County Councillor for the new Unitary Authority of the Vale of Glamorgan County Borough Council. Fred was the Chairman of the Council for the Municipal year of 1997/1998. He represents the ward of Cadoc in Barry. 

In 1994 Fred took the judicial oath and was sworn in as a Justice of the Peace and sat in Barry Magistrates Court until it closed in December 2012.  Currently Fred is the Chair of the Planning Committee, Chair of the Trust Committee, Chair of the Welsh Church Acts Committee and Chair of the Public Rights of Way sub-committee.  Fred is also Chairman of the Governing body of St Helen’s Roman Catholic Junior School and Cadoxton Primary School.

Fred has three children, Steven, Kathryn and Alistair and three granddaughters and one grandson. Fred’s spare time is taken up with following Stoke City FC and Welsh Rugby.
