Mayor of Southampton

It is one of the biggest charitable events of the Southampton calendar.

Hundreds of people gathered together for the Mayor’s Charity Ball last night to help raise more than £20,000 for charity.

Held at St Mary’s Stadium, the glitzy event, sponsored by port operators ABP Southampton, featured a Strictly Come Dancing theme accompanied by a 13-piece band.

Mayor Linda Norris said the night was “absolutely fantastic”.

“I am still buzzing, it was such a great evening,” added Cllr Norris.

“The big band was superb, I felt like I was taken back to my youth when we would have bands playing at all our events.

“Thank you to everyone that helped raise money last night.”

This year, the mayor’s three chosen charities, who will share the cash raised, are Rose Road, the Saints Foundation and Southampton Air Cadets.

Prizes up for auction included a week for two away at The BodyHoliday luxury hotel on the Caribbean island of St Lucia and a hospitality box for ten at Saints' first home game of the 2016/17 Premier League season.
