Mayor of Lancaster

Coun Robert Redfern was elected as the Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Lancaster on May 13.

Coun Redfern has represented Skerton East Ward for 17 years. He has been Deputy Mayor twice to Coun Roger Sherlock in 2009/2010 and to Coun Sheila Denwood in 2012/2013. His wife Linda was Deputy Mayoress on both occasions.

Linda will be supporting her husband as Mayoress.  They have two daughters Nicola and Donna.

The Mayor’s Charity for his year in office is Diabetes Services at Royal Lancaster Infirmary to create a Hub for Diabetes Care.

The Diabetes Hub will provide high quality specialist diabetes care services; support patient and health care professional education, training and research to improve the lives of our local community with diabetes. 

Coun Redfern has lived in Lancaster all his life and attended Ryelands Junior and Skerton High Schools and worked at Nairn Williamson and Lancashire County Council.

He serves on Lancaster Charity, Skerton Community Centre and also Friends of Ryelands Park.

Coun Carla Brayshaw will be Deputy Mayor for 2016/17.

The Mayor is the first citizen of the district and within the council first among equals.

The Mayor is a non-political symbol of the local authority, a symbol of open society and equality and an expression of social cohesion.
